Nicholas RogerBATESIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend Nicholas Roger Bates. Nick at the age of 77 passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home on the afternoon of the 23rd September 2022. Born in Portsmouth on the 28th of October 1944 to Ivy and Percy Bates, Nick and his elder brother Tony, were raised in Gosport. After residing in a number of places Nick settled in Humberstone, Leicester where he enrolled into Scraptoft College of Education. Having qualified, Nick went on to teach primary school pupils at both Gilmorton and Broomfield schools. Nick was an enthusiastic member of the Humberstone St Mary's Drama Society and having a passion for steam trains he became a volunteer at the Leicester North Station on the Great Central Railway. Nick enjoyed a socially active lifestyle where throughout his life he accumulated a large circle of friends. Nick will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Nick's funeral service will take place at Great Glen Crematorium on Friday 11th November at 2:30pm.
